The refining and petrochemical group ORLEN Unipetrol has published its Environmental, Social, and Governance Report (ESG report) for 2023. The ORLEN Unipetrol Group thus continues developing its strategy of providing transparent information to experts and the general public regarding its approach to environmental protection, employees, customers, suppliers, occupational safety, and corporate governance. Last year, the ORLEN Unipetrol Group invested almost CZK 2.5 billion in environmental protection and support. This investment increased by almost 18% year on year and has grown more than 30% since 2018.
“We have prepared our ESG report for 2023, in which we provide information about our strategy, objectives, achievements, opportunities and risks in our company’s sustainability,” says Zbigniew Pawłucki, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group. He added: “We are part of the Czech Republic’s key infrastructure and are aware of our exceptional position in the Czech business environment. Therefore, we put a fundamental emphasis on being perceived as a successful and responsible company by our employees, business partners, suppliers, customers, and, last but not least, the public.”
The new report follows the 2022 ESG Report, which provided information about partial steps towards implementing the medium-term development strategy until 2030, constituting the starting point for reaching net zero. The ORLEN Unipetrol Group wants to meet this goal by 2050 at the latest.
“Our main motivation is to utilise our production technologies effectively and to manage raw materials, so our business is gradually transformed towards a sustainable future. Therefore, we put an enormous emphasis on decarbonisation, a circular economy, and the development of biofuels and renewable electricity sources,” says Zbigniew Pawłucki.
